Kuizinai : Exploring the journey of cooking & enjoying food, cultures with inclusion.
Everyone is nervous about cooking, especially whether you are cooking for yourself or if you are cooking for family and friends , you have the wierd feeling of how the recipe would turn out to be. Even if you are a seasoned cook with decades of experience, you know the feeling. Imagine the magnitude of the problem from a preparation and the experience during the cooking operation for people with impairments
My first and foremost observation about the problem was very personal and within my family. My grand aunt, who loved cooking and living an active life, had to give up cooking due to glaucoma-induced blindness. I have seen my grandma struggling over the last few years as her glaucoma has progressed. She is mostly inactive due to inability to see and safety concerns because she had some kitchen injuries.
I conducted primary and secondary research about visual impairment and their lifestyle, their struggles and their strength and courage to lead a life with dignity. I realized that this is not an issue limited to my home environment. It is estimated that there are 2.2 billion visually impaired people in the world. I also observed that several other categories of people (busy multitasking parents and others, students, people who want try new recipes, new cooks) can also benefit from an integrated kitchen sensing, intelligence & navigation system.
My most impactful observations came from watching cooking videos by people who were visually impaired. The journey of Kuizinai started 4 years ago, while I was exploring my passion to use technology to change the world, by solving every day problems that I visualized around me and provide new opportunities for making better lives for people at affordable cost.
“Kuizinai was born from a resolve to infuse advanced continuous sensing, intelligence and navigation in the kitchen.”
